Sydney White's Hot or Not List....in Real Life??!

So yesterday a website went viral on my campus, that is causing such an uproar even from some teachers (politics class of course). Its similar to the website "Hot or Not" in the movie Sydney White (AWESOME movie btw) the whole concept is 'rating' girls based off pictures.

The creators of this website took profile pictures new and old from people's Facebook pages and posted it up. The website seemed to be done poorly so an amateur made it for sure.

I went on it and was confused how the ratings were determined so kept clicking so it would refresh with new pictures (of course curious to see if I was on it). Turns out every time I would click on a picture to refresh I voted on them-- OOPS...

Most if not all of the pictures were from Freshmen and Sophomore girls... in my opinion whoever created it probably was a freshmen or sophomore as well.

Like really... they are the ONLY ones who have the time to create...copy the pictures...and post it up. College students will understand once you hit your junior year....goodbye free time. It's when most of your classes for your major take place and all the work on work on work piles. NO time for 'rating' websites.

Anyways, as expected there were so many people pissed off...and posting their statuses on Facebook saying how it degrades women, invasion of privacy, the creators are cruel, etc. I feel like by posting this they helped spread the word of this website... (i feel like someone watched The Social Network a bit too much).

But my school administrators and their legal teams stayed up 'all night' and managed to block it just on our servers since they can't take it down worldwide. But it violated SCHOOL policies so the creators will have a nice encounter with our school's 'law.'

A lot of people are upset and what not..but i personally don't know how I feel about it.

Is it degrading? I guess to some extent..all the pictures were decent after all they are PROFILE PICTURES. So I think if girls are offended that their picture was up on the internet...its the golden rule for any social network...once its up on Facebook its up for anyone to see no matter how many 'privacy' settings you put up. So you shouldn't be upset someone found it.

I feel like we 'rate' people without the need of a website...so because someone actually took the time to physically dedicate a site to rating is just being 'real' because everyone else does it just without a site.

I do think for some girls this site may be emotionally harming...seeing poor rates (there were no room for comments--good thing) but from what I saw it wasn't bad as many other bashing sites can be. Again the site was confusing so rates are inaccurate if that consoles anyone...

Bottom Line: JUST DON'T DO IT! for everyone's sake i feel like people should stop creating things like this...its a waste of time...a cause for un-needed drama.

Any opinions?
